Theatrical Three's

3 year olds are beginning to discover language and are learning to express their emotions with more thought and care. Their individuality is growing, and their creative thought is starting to develop. They are becoming familiar with the ideas of character and pretence – the thoughts and feelings of someone other than themselves - which is an exciting part of childhood development and can be supported and advanced through Drama lessons at this age.

Classes encourage students to build confidence in expressing themselves in a creative sense. Attention is given to imagination, the early stages of enacting character, and simple performance concepts. At this level, DRAMARAMA incorporates vocal and listening acting activities, basic combined song and dance routines, an early introduction to stage dialogue, and costume/face painting in the creation of character. Once again the child will experience a familiar and safe environment and routine in which they feel comfortable to explore their imaginations through voice, body, movement, and space.

All classes are specifically designed to cover the learning strands included in the New Zealand Early Childhood Education teaching curriculum.

Fabulous Four's

4 year olds are getting a good grasp on language. They are starting to understand the idea of responsibility, action, and consequence. Their social interaction is becoming more defined, and emotional expression is becoming slightly more controlled.

This is an exciting age for your child to be involved in Drama lessons as they prepare for school education – a world in which self confidence in expression of ideas, practiced social interaction, and developed imagination are invaluable skills – skills that are readily promoted through DRAMARAMA lessons.

Through an exciting range of lessons, classes at this level encourage students to speak clearly and confidently in their expression of ideas, and encourage peer support and patience. Alongside familiar stories and characters, further development of imagination is implemented and children are supported in their own creative story telling which is in turn extended to enactment of their own devised characters and stories.  Coupled with dialogue, children are introduced to the concept of ‘role’ and their place within performance – their first significant ‘acting’ experience. At this level children are confident to perform to a live audience.

Sensational Five's & Sixes

5 & 6 year olds are at an age where they are beginning to take responsibility for their actions. They are learning how to communicate ideas and express feelings on a daily basis. Now that they are away from home for the majority of their day, they must take learning into their own hands. Self-discipline and control is often challenged at this age – listening to others and accepting their ideas is crucial to one’s development during the first two years of school. Drama lessons will encourage development in these areas in each child.

Classes encourage students’ expression of their creative ideas whilst maintaining control of their voice, body, movement and space. Students are given the opportunity to perform individually in every lesson. At this level students have an understanding of character and role, DRAMARAMA incorporates vocal and movement techniques, song and dance routines, dialogue and script exercises and a final performance. Each class is a fun, exciting, and safe environment.

Epic Seven's & Eight's

Our 7 & 8 year old program is aimed at students who are serious about performing. At this age children have taken learning into their own hands. Listening to their peer’s and communicating their ideas should come easily and expression of creative ideas and imagination will open their mind to many possibilities throughout their lives; drama classes will encourage development in these areas.

Classes at this age encourage focus and attention. We believe that if a child is focused they are listening, absorbing information and developing at a much quicker pace. Therefore our classes are structured so that each week students have something familiar and exciting to look forward to. During the term, students learn a variety of different acting techniques - DRAMARAMA offers a fun, exciting and safe environment with small class sizes.
